Young male injured in Putnam County accident

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. — A Poca High School student was involved in a single vehicle accident that occurred Saturday, according to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Department.

The male, whose name and age was not released, was driving on Poca River Road around 5 p.m.

A witness told deputies the vehicle ran off the right side of the roadway, losing control before crossing the roadway and striking a tree around 6 feet above the ground.

The driver was entrapped in the vehicle and had to be removed.

He had significant injuries and was transported by helicopter to a hospital for treatment.

A family member told WSAZ-TV the teen lost his leg and has suffered a stroke.
