Yeager Airport receives grant to add solar panels

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Yeager Airport will receive a federal grant to install solar modules on top of one of the airport’s parking garages.

The Federal Aviation Administration providing the grant, which is worth around $3.5 million dollars.

According to a release from the airport, solar energy produced by the panels will be enough to supply electricity to both of the facility’s parking garages. The power generated could provide electricity for up to 70 homes.

“This solar project will be a noteworthy and visible highlight of our ongoing commitment to sustainability. It will provide environmental benefits to the region and financial savings to Yeager Airport,” airport director Terry Sayre said.

The Kanawha County Commission and U.S. Sens. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., were instrumental in securing the grant.
