WVAWC begins repair of West Side main

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia American Water is moving forward with repairs to a 36-inch water transmission main today at the intersection of Florida Street and 3rd Avenue on Charleston’s West Side.

The repair was planned for last week but was postponed to allow for additional preparation work. Crews installed the manhole Monday in order to make repairs on the pipe today. The repair requires extensive planning, de-watering of a 7,000-foot section of pipe and additional contingencies in place.

The affected main supplies water to a large area of customers in both Putnam and Kanawha counties on either side of the Kanawha River.

With the exception of some isolated areas of discolored water, customers are not expected to be impacted by the repair, but WVAWC has asked customers to limit non-essential water until 10 a.m. Wednesday.
