Woman dies after being struck by vehicle on Corridor G

UPDATE Friday 1/27: South Charleston police say they’ve identified the woman who was struck and killed by a car earlier this week on Corridor G.

Investigators say it appears Michelle Lynn Stover, 42, of South Charleston, was trying to cross the busy highway.

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police are trying to learn the identity of a woman who died Thursday morning of injuries suffered when she was struck by a vehicle Wednesday evening on U.S. Route 119 (Corridor G), South Charleston police said.

“Young female was walking along U.S. 119 about 7:00 in the evening and was struck by a vehicle,” said Lt. Pat Rader. “It turned out to be a fatality.”

Rader said the driver of the vehicle which hit the woman stopped immediately and fully cooperated with investigating officers.

“From all indications a car ahead of the striking vehicle had swerved to miss the vehicle and the second vehicle wasn’t able to do so,” Rader explained. “Indications are she was walking on the Corridor on the roadway itself, but straddling the shoulder of the line and bouncing back and forth.”

The incident happened at dark, but there was some light from the nearby car dealership in the area so it wasn’t completely dark on the roadway.

The identity of the woman is still not known, Rader said. They are attempting to put together a description and look for possible identification which may have been misplaced as EMS crews scrambled to administer care on the scene.
