West Side Volunteer Fire Department celebrates 70 years

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Side Volunteer Fire Department will celebrate its 70th anniversary on Saturday.

According to a statement from the Kanawha County Commission, the fire department started out as a small hut with a single fire engine. The fire department now has four trucks, two of which are used as fire engines, one as a rescue truck and the other as a tanker truck.

Kanawha County Commission President Kent Carper will present a proclamation to the fire department on Saturday at 11 a.m.
