Veterans to receive coin at Nitro ceremony

NITRO, W.Va. — The city of Nitro will honor all veterans attending this weekend’s Horse Parade and ensuing ceremony with the presentation of a coin designed specifically for the event.

The coin will be presented at the event at Living Memorial Park.

The coin includes the inscription “Proud to be an American soldier” and female soldier on the front side and a World War I era doughboy on the opposite.

Victoria Cobb, a senior at Buffalo High School, designed the front of the coin and t-shirt image.

“I’ve designed t-shirts, but never a coin,” she said.”That was pretty cool to do.”

Female veterans will also receive a t-shirt featuring the front of the coin.

The Horse Parade begins at noon on Saturday, followed by the ceremony at 2 p.m. Female veterans will be honored, as will late Marine Corps veteran Delmer Bird.
