Two men arrested in West Side drug bust

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two Kanawha County men were arrested Wednesday night in connection with a drug bust on Charleston’s West Side.

Charleston Police Chief Lt. Steve Cooper said officers from the city and the Metro Drug Unit arrived at a Sixth Street apartment building after receiving a call about a suspected drug dealer there. With a search warrant, officers forced their way into the apartment after no one answered the door.

Police allegedly found the two men lying on the floor, following the sound of a gun shot as they entered the home.

Cooper said Brian Dunningham, 46, was lying next to a .38 caliber revolver and Roderick Johnson, 59, was in the kitchen, but no one was injured or hit by the bullet.

Dunningham was charged with prohibited person in possession of a deadly weapon and wanton endangerment. He was also previously convicted of domestic battery. Johnson was charged with possession of crack cocaine with intent to deliver.

The men are being held at the South Central Regional Jail without bail.
