Two-day flood cleanup scheduled Friday, Saturday at Herbert Hoover High

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Kanawha County Commission is hosting a two-day clean up at Herbert Hoover High School Friday and Saturday for residents affected by the June 23 flood.

Those residents can drop off any flood debris from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

All solid waste will be accepted, except for gas or propane tanks, paint, chemicals motor oil or other hazardous materials.

All tires, scrap metals and newer electronics will be recycled.

Kanawha County collected over 17,000 tons of debris from Elkview and Clendenin following the flood, according to Commissioner Dave Hardy.

“We have decided to have an additional flood cleanup to help the area continue to make the Elk River Community strong again,” Hardy said in a statement.

This will be the county’s final cleanup event until Spring 2017.
