Trucker killed in I-64 wreck identified

DUNBAR, W.Va. — An Alabama truck driver is identified as the victim of a fatal accident on I-64 in Kanawha County on Tuesday night.

Casey Wharton, 44, of Millbrook, Alabama, was killed in the crash according to Dunbar Police. Wharton lost control of his eighteen-wheeler around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday and crashed over the wall of the overpass just before the Dunbar exit.

The truck, hauling frozen chicken, went over the wall and down the hillside below. The truck crushed the cab and trapped Wharton inside.

An estimate 20,000 pounds of frozen chicken was lost on the hillside in the accident. Wharton was driving for ICS Logistics of Pleasant Hill, Iowa.

The investigation continues, but authorities say speed and weather conditions at the time were both contributing factors. The road was wet and it was raising at the time of the accident.
