Truck plunges into Kanawha River from Kanawha Boulevard

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Two men were pulled from a truck Friday afternoon that wrecked into the Kanawha River in Charleston, police said.

The driver lost control on Kanawha Blvd. at about 3:30. The truck hit and tree and went into the river near Magic Island, eyewitnesses said.

“I parked real quick, dialed 911 and came down as soon as possible,” one eyewitness told WSAZ-TV.

A person walking in the area and an undercover Metro Drug Unit officer helped rescue the men, according to those at the scene.

“He (the undercover officer) plunged in after them. Thank God for him,” the eyewitness said.

There was no immediate word on the medical conditions of the men.

Charleston firefighters were on the scene to help with rescue efforts.
