Troopers: Stolen vehicle located in car jacking, kidnapping case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Police say they have located a stolen vehicle used in connection with a kidnapping case out of Kanawha and Boone counties.

It’s unknown were the vehicle was found, but troopers confirmed it was a 2005 silver Ford Escape.

Troopers are looking for a man who allegedly car jacked two people. The suspect kidnapped a man at gunpoint in Kanawha City and stole his car Friday. The suspect then drove to the Rock Castle area of Boone County with the victim still in the car.

“A guy was approached, kidnapped and forced to drive the suspect into Boone County,” said Cpt. D.M. Nelson from State Police Logan Detachment.

Once they arrived in Boone County, the suspect told the victim to get out of the car and then tied him to a tree. State Police later spotted the victim who was able to free himself.

A second vehicle was also stolen in Boone County.

Nelson said they’re collecting as much evidence as they can to develop new leads in the case.

“We’re trying to develop a suspect. Additional statements are being taken. Home surveillance video as well as business surveillance videos are being reviewed,” he said.

Troopers are working to determine if the suspect and victims knew each other.

“We need to establish a definite relationship if there is one,” Nelson said.

The suspect is described as a white man around 5’10” and weighing about 160 pounds with brown hair and a beard.
