Trial date for South Charleston man moved to August

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A trial date for a South Charleston man accused of killing a young child has been postponed to August, a judge ruled Monday.

A Kanawha County judge ruled the start of the Jarrel Stricklen trial would begin August 28 after defense attorneys asked for medical records the judge had to first sign off on.

Stricklen, 24, allegedly killed Gavin Aldridge and stuffed his body in a freezer in May 2015.

Stricklen called authorities several hours later.

Stricklen told police the child drowned in the bathtub, though he admitted to putting him in the freezer.

According to the Medical Examiner’s Officer, Gavin died from “physical assault with fetal asphyxiation.”
