Teen dead and two injured in Fayette County lightening strike

FAYETTEVILLE, W.Va.  A teenager was killed and two were injured after they were struck by lightening in Fayette County Monday afternoon.

It happened at around 3:30 p.m. near Elverton Road in Fayetteville.

Deputies from the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office and emergency personnel responded to the scene where they found three 17-year-old males hurt, including two who were seriously injured.

The teens were fishing at a local pond when a severe thunderstorm hit and lightening struck a tree where they were standing.

All three males were taken to Plateau Medical Center for treatment. The condition of the other two teens is not known at this time.

Sheriff Steve Kessler said the incident appeared to be “a very tragic freak accident.”

The case remains under investigation.
