Thousands cast ballots ahead of Primary Election

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — More than 3,300 people in Kanawha County have cast their ballot since the start of Early Voting.

Early Voting started April 25. It runs through this Saturday.

Kanawha County Clerk Vera McCormick said the number comes from all six of its locations.

“I think it’s due to us having more locations and of course the two municipalities that’s on our ballot. I think that’s bringing out some of the voters also,” she said.

The county used to only conduct early voting at its Voter Registration Office in downtown Charleston. This is the first year the county added sites.

McCormick said the opportunity opened up when the county switched to new touch screen voting machines.

“The voters love them. We have had no problems with them and really no complaints at all,” she said.

McCormick said she expects early voting numbers to exceed past 4,000.

Early Voting runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday; and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Primary Election Day is Tuesday. Polls will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
