SWAT team goes to work at Mountain Mission

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Members of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department SWAT team got their workout in a different way Wednesday when they helped moved 1,100 boxes of holiday meals for Mountain Mission on Charleston’s West Side.

The SWAT team has been helping out in this way for the last few years, sheriff’s department spokesman Sgt. Brian Humphreys said.

“It’s not particularly strenuous for this guys–they are up for the challenge,” he said. “It’s taking away from a team workout they would be doing to do something for their community.”

Mountain Mission Director John Roberts said the team members made it look easy.

“They are grabbing boxes and moving them. It’s nothing for those guys because they are used to it,” he said.

The boxes are filled with Christmas meals for needy families around the Kanawha Valley. It’s about the Christmas spirit, Roberts said.

“They (SWAT team) aren’t doing it for themselves. We aren’t doing it for ourselves. We’re doing it to help people who may not have a traditional Christmas meal,” he said.
