Storms cause damage, outages throughout Kanawha Valley

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Storms ripped through the Kanawha Valley Thursday evening as more than 8,000 customers lost power in Kanawha County and more than 3,000 in Putnam County according to Applachian Power.

The Nitro and Cross Lanes area experienced the most severe storm damage with many downed trees. Most of the outages are in the areas west of Charleston.

St. Albans police say lights were out at the mall, MacCorkle Avenue, 3rd Avenue and Sixth Avenue. Route 25 in Nitro also had some stoplight outages.

Police say all intersections lights out should be treated as a four-way stop.
