State Police release data on I-64 patrol increase

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia State Police West Virginia Public Service Commission Transportation Enforcement Division released data Friday from an increase of patrols from both agencies on I-64 from Huntington to Charleston.

After a spike in crashes on the busy stretch, the increase in patrols led to nearly 300 traffic stops for various violations the first few weeks of November.

Additionally, 65 commercial carrier vehicle inspections were performed. Of those 65 inspections, 198 violations were identified and 13 trucks were put out of service.

State Police affirmed that the goal for the increased enforcement is ensuring safety on the busy highway.
