Spring to skip weekend

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — If you packed away your winter coat and boots you may need to grab them again this weekend because much of the state is going to see snow, according to the National Weather Service.

Friday night rain will changeover to snow covering most of the state Saturday, NWS Meteorologist Mara Casey said.

“This is not a drill. This is not any sort of joke. We do really expect it. Sometimes this just happens,” she said.

Lower elevations could see a dusting to a inch with accumulation amounts increasing toward the east. The higher elevations in Pocahontas and Randolph counties could see six inches or more.

“It’s not going to be a debilitating snow but people do need to remember that even though the calendar does say it’s April you do have to treat it as February sometimes,” Casey said. “Drive a little slower because road conditions will deteriorate with this.”

The temperatures will plunge Saturday night before they rebound to the 50’s and 60’s on Sunday,

“Up in the mountains we’re expecting lows in the teens and in the lowlands lows in the mid to upper 20’s,” Casey said.

Temperatures look generally warmer next week.
