Spencer woman sentenced in fraud case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A former worker with the United Way of Central West Virginia was sentenced Monday to spend time in federal prison for stealing money from the organization in a credit card fraud scheme.

Rhonda Kelley Conrad, 49, of Spencer, previously pleaded guilty to credit card fraud. While working for the United Way in Charleston in 2014 she took a number of the organization’s credit cards and charged more than $6,000 goods for herself. She transferred money to a personal bank account and also used the cards to pay personal bills at retail stores. Conrad set up false accounts in the United Way’s electronic payment system.

Conrad was sentenced to six months in prison, fined $3,000 and ordered to pay more than $10,600 in restitution.
