Dunbar man arrested after Dutch Hollow Road shooting

DUNBAR, W.Va. — A Kanawha County man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly shooting at Kanawha County sheriff’s deputies.

Faron Griffin, 51, of Dutch Hollow Road, near Dunbar, was charged with wanton endangerment and being in illegal possession of a firearm.

According to the sheriff’s department, deputies were dispatched to the area to investigate a shots fired call. When they arrived they didn’t hear any shots but as they approached Griffin’s home shots rang out. The deputies took cover as trees around them were struck by several rounds of gunfire.

Additional police agencies were called to the scene and Griffin’s house was surrounded. Deputies used an intercom from the department’s armored SWAT truck to make contact with him. A short time later, Griffin came out of the house unarmed and allowed deputies to search his residence. They found a shotgun inside.

Griffin is being held in the South Central Regional Jail on $10,000 bail.
