“Snitches” warning sign leads to 2 drug arrests in Fayette County

OAK HILL, W.Va. — Two Fayette County woman are facing drug charges after deputies went to a home and saw a sign on the front door warning that “snitches” will be searched.

Deputies responded to a complaint of joyriding Thursday at a home on Central Avenue in Oak Hill. When deputies arrived at the house, they saw the sign and thought drugs were likely being sold there.

The sign says, “Due to snitches, everyone entering my home is subject to being searched. All cell phones and drinks will be left outside. If you’re not a snitch, it won’t offend you if I search you.”

April Lavender, 38, of Oak Hill was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver.

Deputies found heroin, meth and other substances inside the home.

Kristie Weis, 22, of Kincaid, was charged with joyriding at the house.

Both Lavender and Weis remain in the Southern Regional Jail.

In statement, Fayette County Sheriff Steve Kessler said:

“While drug investigations often require a great deal of time and effort, sometimes the criminals make our job pretty easy,” said Sheriff Kessler. “If someone posts a sign on their front door about searching ‘snitches,’ it’s a pretty safe bet that there are illegal drugs being sold out of that location.”
