Sentence date pushed back for man involved in Rand shootings

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A man connected to a series of fatal shootings in Rand last year is scheduled to be sentenced next month.

A judge was supposed to sentence Todd Hodge, 32, on Tuesday, but the date was pushed back to Feb. 22 — the first day of Gerard Maxwell’s trial. Maxwell, 30, is charged in the shooting death of Christopher “Snacks” Carey, 27, and wounding of Latisha Crawford, 29.

Hodge previously pleaded guilty to accessory after the fact to wanton endangerment, a misdemeanor. He faces one year in prison. William Lyttle, 23, of Costa, pleaded guilty to a felony charge of wanton endangerment and faces up to five years in prison.

“They are co-defendants of his (Maxwell). They have agreed to plead in exchange for corporation against him in the trial,” Kanawha County assistant prosecutor Maryclaire Akers told county circuit judge Charles King.

Both Hodge and Lyttle made deals with Kanawha County prosecutors and plan to testify against Maxwell.

The men were arrested about two months after the January 2015 shootings outside an apartment on Starling Drive.
