SC council could pass fireworks restriction ordinance Thursday

SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. — South Charleston could pass a new fireworks ordinance at its city council meeting Thursday night.

After an exuberant display of fireworks around Fourth of July this year due to expanded legality of fireworks passed during the 2016 Legislative Session, many residents complained about the noise and debris.

The proposed ordinance would ban fireworks within city limits with the exception of Memorial Day, Labor Day, New Year’s Eve and the Fourth of July.

Fireworks on those holidays could be set off until 10:30 p.m., with the exception of New Year’s Eve when they would be allowed until 12:30 a.m.

The ordinance passed first reading at South Charleston’s last council meeting on Aug. 4.
