Salango files paperwork ahead of 2018 election

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Kanawha County Commissioner Ben Salango filed pre-candidacy papers Tuesday, allowing him to organize a campaign and raise money for a 2018 election bid.

Salango was appointed to the commission in February to serve the remainder of Dave Hardy’s term. Hardy resigned from the commission to join the Justice administration as revenue secretary.

“We are making great progress in our efforts to attract jobs and improve our county,” Salango said in a statement. “I want to be in a position to continue to work on those efforts.”

Salango has been responsible for leading the commission’s effort to redevelop Shawnee Park in Dunbar to a multi-sports complex capable of hosting local and regional youth sports tournaments.

Salango said he hopes to make a formal announcement by the end of September.
