Roth to become UC president Monday

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The next president of the University of Charleston will begin his time overseeing the university on Monday.

Martin Roth is succeeding Edwin Welch, who is retiring after 29 years of service to the university.

Roth recently served as dean at the Barney School of Business at the University of Hartford. He is a native of Pittsburgh, and previously held positions at the University of South Carolina, Boston College and the University of Pittsburgh, his alma mater.

He also has experience with consulting work with Nissan, Verizon and Xerox.

“The focus on professional programs, innovation and community engagement sets the University apart,” he said in a statement. “With the outstanding faculty and staff, I look forward to building on UC’s impressive momentum to create exceptional value for students and partner organizations.”
