Robinson: Justice staff changes hurts faith in office

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Citing staff departures, Delegate Andrew Robinson, D-Kanawha, says people on Gov. Jim Justice’s staff don’t believe in his work for the state.

“When the governor was elected, he didn’t have a whole lot of confidence,” Robinson said on “580 Live” earlier this week. “He elected people who had confidence. He elected Nick Casey and some of those guys that brought in some clout that we had confidence behind the governor’s staff. At this point, those people don’t want to work for the governor.”

The Justice administration has seen multiple staff departures, including employees leaving aftre he switched to the Republican Party last year. The most recent departures include leaders of the state Commerce Department, in which the top three officials have left, including Secretary Woody Thrasher.

Thrasher resigned at the governor’s request following poor handling of long-term flood recovery efforts.

“We see people leaving his office and leaving his administration once, twice, three times a week,” Robinson said. “That’s the part that really scares me is that people can’t stand to work for the guy and don’t believe in his mission enough to stick around and hang it out.”
