Results released for police emphasis on distracted driving

CHARLESTON, W.Va.–Since the beginning of the month, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s office has been trying to crack down on cell phone use on the road and other forms of distracted driving.

The sheriff’s office has been participating in the Governor’s Highway Safety Program’s Distracted Driving campaign since April 1 From the time, county sheriffs have been looking for drivers using cell phones with a hands-free device.

Since the enforcement was emphasized, 87 tickets have been issued for violation of the law, along with another 10 tickets for other violations. The program will continue in the coming weeks, and the sheriff’s office urges residents to pay attention to the road and their surroundings while driving.
