Putnam County educators, families hold informational pickets

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. — Putnam County teachers, parents and students took part in informational pickets Monday regarding fixes to the state’s health insurance program and a pay proposal they say would not cover costs.

Gov. Jim Justice is backing a 1 percent yearly pay raise increase for public school teachers, in which increases would happen for five consecutive years.

This is one of multiple public events to be held in the last week; teachers from Logan, Mingo and Wyoming counties packed the state Capitol Friday as the Senate voted for the raises. Educators in the northern and eastern Panhandles.
