PSC approves West Virginia American’s purchase of Queen Shoals service district

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — West Virginia American Water will be allowed to purchase the Queen Shoals Public Service District following a decision last week by the state Public Service Commission.

According to the approved order, the Queen Shoals Public Service District will owe West Virginia American Water $313,000 in unpaid water charges when the deal closes. In return, the public utility company will pay the public service district $16,000 for its facilities. The deal is expected to close sometime in August.

The Queen Shoals Public Service District provides service to more than 220 customers and controls its own distribution system. Customers will see a rate increase that matches with current West Virginia American rates.

West Virginia American has been looking to obtain the district as it struggled to maintain infrastructure.
