Police investigate house shooting in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Police are looking for the gunman who is believed to have targeted a man inside a Charleston home.

It happened this weekend at a home on Woodhaven Drive. Police said several shots were fired.

“No body was struck by any gun fire, but there were numerous rounds fired,” said Lt. Steve Cooper with the Charleston Police Department.

Cooper was a guest on Monday’s “580 Live” with Charleston Mayor Danny Jones heard on 580-WCHS, a MetroNews affiliate.

The man targeted inside the house is believed to be Brandon Sanders, according to police. Cooper said Sanders previously served time in prison in connection with a 2005 murder.

This weekend’s shooting happened near Granview Elementary on Woodward Drive. There was a heavy police presence there Monday morning for the first day of school in Kanawha County.

“We had a heavy police presence up there this morning for bus stops and just to give the parents some piece of mind up there because there were lots of shots fired this weekend,” he said.

Police are now working to determine a motive. Cooper said it’s unknown why Sanders was targeted in the shooting.

Cooper said it’s possible there are multiple suspects in the case.
