Plea deal in ambulance theft

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Kanawha County man who punched a medic and took a Kanawha County ambulance on a ride last November pleaded guilty to a pair of charges Wednesday.

Scotty Marshall, 41, of Charleston, entered a plea bargain with prosecutors on charges of battery of an EMS worker and grand larceny.

Marshall became combative last November when he was being taken from CAMC to a Bluefield drug rehab facility. He punched the medic in the face and body before the driver of the ambulance stopped the vehicle.

When the driver exited the vehicle to open the back of the ambulance, Marshall then slid into the driver’s seat. The injured medic was able to escape the vehicle when Marshall stopped it briefly before continuing.

Marshall called 911 a few times during the incident and reported he was the victim of a kidnapping.

Senior Status Judge Tom Evans gave conditional acceptance of the plea. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 6. Marshall is currently in the South Central Regional Jail.
