Play on Nitro’s founding scheduled for March 24 and 25

NITRO, W.Va. – Nitro residents willl have the chance to learn about the city’s history when “Nitro Alive 1917-2017″ is performed Friday and Saturday at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

The event will feature an historical fiction-play on the founding of the city. Nitro is celebrating its centennial anniversary. It was founded by the federal government as a center for gunpowder production during World War I.

“During the course of the evening, the audience will be introduced to many persons who have played roles in the community’s adventures and misadventures,” said Bill Fortune, spokesman at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, in a statement. “It will be a fun way to learn history.”

Dinner will also be served, in which options include a meal of baked steak or chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, salad, dessert and drinks.

Ticket prices are:

– $25 for couples
– $15 for singles
– $6 for children up to the age of 10 years old.

The event will begin both days at 6 p.m.
