Overturned truck closes US Route 35 for several hours

PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va. — A section of U.S. Route 35 was closed for several hours on Tuesday after a tractor-trailer overturned.

According to authorities, the driver of the truck suffered a medical episode while driving. He drove off the road near the Mason County line and plowed through a field before tipping over.

The truck was carrying grain alcohol. Officials with the state Division of Highways said 44,000 pounds of grain alcohol had to be unloaded.

Traffic was backed up for miles because of the incident. The driver was taken to the hospital.
