Ohio carjacking suspect in custody after arrest near Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A man wanted in connection with a crime spree that began in Ohio Saturday ended after a pursuit and gunfire outside of Charleston Saturday night, police said.

An arrest warrant was issued earlier Saturday for Todd Boyles, 44, of Caldwell, Ohio, after he allegedly carjacked several vehicles in the Belmont, Ohio area. West Virginia police were alerted he may be driving south on Interstate 79. His vehicle was spotted in the Charleston area at around 8 p.m. Charleston police and Kanawha County deputies began a pursuit.

Other officers joined in as the chase headed up Route 114 into the Quick area. Gunshots were fired and the pursuit ended near Sanderson where Boyles was taken into custody, police said.

One Charleston officer suffered minor injuries when his cruiser was rammed during the pursuit.

Boyles is being held in the South Central Regional Jail on a number of charges. The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department is leading the investigation.
