Nitro police officer found not guilty of chokehold, false report

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Nitro police officer was found not guilty Wednesday in connection to accusations of putting a suspect in a chokehold and later lying about what happened.

Todd Jarrell faced charges of battery and false reporting in connection with the May 2016 arrest of Jared Hester.

Jarrell’s employment with the police department was terminated in November after being on administrative leave for 18 months.

“This has been a trying time for the Nitro Police Dept and its members,” Nitro Police Chief Bobby Eggelton said in a statement. “The not guilty verdict handed down today is still being discussed by the administration.
