Nicholas fire claims woman’s life

MOUNT NEBO, W.Va. — A woman died in a fire early Thursday morning on Upper Anglin Road near Mount Nebo in Nicholas County, authorities said.

The victim, believed to be in her 70s, was unable to get out of the house. Her three adult children managed to escape.

There were working smoke detectors in the house, according to the state Fire Marshal’s Office. Investigators have initially classified the cause of the fire to be undetermined because of the significant damage.

First responders said there was a man with a gun at the scene when they arrived but they believe he was a family member who was upset with the tragedy.
