Names released in connection with St. Albans deaths

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. — The Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department released the names Thursday of the man and woman struck and killed by a CSX train in St. Albans in the early morning hours of April 4.

Jamie Hubbard, 31, of St. Albans, and John Ayscue, 33, of Henderson, North Carolina, were walking on the trestle above the Coal River when the train approached from behind. They both died at the scene.

“One engineer of a train heading one direction saw people walking on a parallel set of tracks and radioed to a train coming in the opposite direction that there were people ahead of him,” said Sgt. Brian Humphreys of the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Department said at the time. “That train slowed down, but the people were on the tracks on a trestle over the Coal River.”

The deadly collision occurred at about 5:30 a.m.
