Metro drug raid nets 1 arrest

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A SWAT team raid at two houses on Charleston’s West Side Thursday evening resulted in one arrest, Metro Drug Unit Commander Sgt. Eric Johnson said.

Two SWAT teams were on the scene Thursday evening.
Two SWAT teams were on the scene Thursday evening.

Drug investigations and intelligence led police to a pair of houses in the 100 block of Delaware Avenue. There was a strong police response, Johnson said during an appearance Friday on 580-Live with Charleston Mayor Danny Jones.

“A decision was made to utilize the SWAT team but because the residences were in such close proximity Charleston SWAT requested Kanawha County SWAT to hit the second house,” Johnson said.

Neither of the men police were looking for were inside the houses but an arrest was made later in the evening.

“One of the individuals was apprehended a short time later just three or four blocks away,” Johnson said.

The investigation is ongoing and the release of further information will be limited, Johnson said.

“Those houses were basically being used to sell (drugs) out of,” Johnson said.
