Man tied to May 2017 shooting pleads guilty to possessing firearm

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A man charged in connection with a May shooting pleaded guilty Monday for being a person prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Marland Eugene Clark, 19, of Dunbar, was indicted in December for shooting Jaylnn Stephenson and Rico Whiting in May 2017. Stephenson and Whiting were pushing a 3-year-old in a stroller near Stadium Place at the time.

Trashawn Dezour Mills, 21, of Charleston, faces charges of malicious wounding, attempted murder, wanton endangerment and witness retaliation.

Tequan Pratt, 22, of Montgomery, was charged with a felony accessory, as well as a misdemeanor possession of a deadly weapon on school property in a different matter.

Clark and Pratt are out of jail on bond, while Mills is at South Central Regional Jail.

According to Kanawha Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Maryclaire Akers, Clark was in a vehicle with Mills and Pratt prior to the shooting but did not witness it.

Stephenson is a witness in a murder case involving Antonio Carnell Williams II, who is accused of killing 20-year-old Shannon Cade in January 2016. Williams and Pratt have a relationship.
