Man pleads guilty in connection with 2016 DUI crash

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A man pleaded guilty Monday to a 2016 DUI crash in which his friend died.

Benjamin Harrison admitted he and Mitchell Garrett had been drinking on July 4, 2016 prior to the two getting into a car. Harrison ran a stop sign near U.S. Route 119, and the vehicle was struck by an SUV. Garrett died in the crash. Another passenger was sent to the hospital.

The gold Nissan Maxima the three were in was in two pieces on the roadway, according to a sheriff’s deputy at the scene.

A judge will sentence Harrison on May 23.
