Man charged in multi county crime spree

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State police have a man in custody for allegedly going on a multi county crime spree.

Brandon Cantley, 33, faces charges out of Kanawha, Boone and Raleigh counties.

The crimes happened in Kanawha, Boone and Raleigh counties.

Brandon Cantley, 33, of Naomi, is accused of robbing an elderly woman and her caregiver at gunpoint in Raleigh County on Aug. 9.

Last month, Cantley allegedly kidnapped a man at gunpoint in Kanawha City and ordered him to drive to the Rock Castle area of Boone County where he then tied him to a tree and stole his vehicle. Police said Cantley also stole a second vehicle in Boone County.

“He took that vehicle and hid it in a mountainous terrain. Then he became involved in some criminal activity in Raleigh County a day or so later,” said Cpt. D.M. Nelson with West Virginia State Police in Logan County.

Nelson said Cantley was a danger to the public, so it was important to arrest him as quickly as possible.

“The crimes that was committed was severe, so to get him off the street and removed from being a threat to innocent people was imperative,” Nelson said.

After the last incident, troopers quickly realized the cases were connected.

“All three county police officials started an investigation and realized that it was more than likely connected and that’s when Mr. Cantley was arrested for the crimes,” he said.

Cantley is charged with robbery, kidnapping, assault, battery and grand larceny between Kanawha, Boone and Raleigh counties.

He is currently being held in the Southern Regional Jail.
