Man arrested for allegedly shooting at parked car in Charleston

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Charleston police arrested a man in a connection with a shots fired incident Sunday night.

Shaliek Reaves, 18, was charged with wanton endangerment after police said he shot at a parked car in the 1500 block of Lee Street East at around 5 a.m.

“A vehicle was struck several times,” said Lt. Steve Cooper, chief of detectives with the Charleston Police Department. “Fortunately, nobody was hit, but still that’s very reckless and dangerous.”

Cooper described the incident on Monday’s “580 Live” with Mayor Danny Jones heard on 580-WCHS.

Reaves told police he shot at the car to defend his mother after she got into a fight.

“He had caught wind that his mother had been involved in a fight near the Embassy Suites and he retaliated on her behalf against a woman who she had gotten into a fight with. He missed her car and hit another one, but he ended up admitting why he did it,” Cooper said.

Cooper said police were able to make a quick arrest thanks to a witness. The witness provided police with a vehicle description and license plate number of the car.

Police then arrested Reaves after he was picked up on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Reaves is currently being held in the South Central Regional Jail.
