Man arrested after allegedly abusing elderly mother

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston man faces multiple charges after allegedly being violent toward his elderly mother and placing her in unsafe conditions.

According to investigators, Metro 911 has received 40 calls over the last year involving a home on Woodland Drive in Charleston. They said Timothy Thomas has abused 84-year-old Carol Thomas on several occasions. Carol Thomas reportedly has dementia, and authorities said Timothy Thomas uses drugs.

A Kanawha County service deputy was trying to find Carol Thomas’ grandson to serve him eviction paperwork. The deputy heard a disturbance inside the house. When Charleston police arrived, Carol Thomas came to a window and told them she was trapped in the bathroom after the grandson kicked the door.

Officers entered the home and forced the door open. They also found Timothy Thomas hiding in a closet and arrested him on two state warrants.

According to a complaint, the home was in severe damage, and animal feces was discovered in the residence.

A criminal complaint states Carol Thomas has repeatedly tried to evict Timothy and her son but has been unable to do so.

Timothy Thomas faces charges of abuse or neglect of an incapacitated adult. The grandson was not found and does not face any charges at this time.
