Second charged in animal cruelty case

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — There are now two people in custody in connection with a dog hanging last week on Charleston’s West Side.

A woman identified as Sydney Delaney turned herself in to Charleston police late Wednesday night.

Delaney’s ex-boyfriend, John “Tay-gun” Copening, Jr, 23, turned himself in earlier Wednesday night. Police have been looking for him for about a week after a female pit bull was found dead, hanging by a chain near Madison Street.

Copening is charged with felony animal cruelty while Delaney faces an accessory charge. She told police she drove Copening to Jacksonville, Florida but gave investigators the wrong address.
