Logan County school bus driver charged with DUI

LOGAN, W.Va. — State Police arrested a Logan County school bus driver for allegedly driving impaired while on the job Monday morning.

Mark Kraus, 54, of Stollings, was arraigned Monday in Logan County Magistrate Court on a misdemeanor charge of DUI with minor.

The Logan County Board of Education contacted State Police about the issue. Interim Superintendent Patricia Lucas confirmed to WSAZ-TV the bus driver made their morning runs prior to the arrest.

When troopers arrived at the school board office located in Logan, they spoke with Kraus who had a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” coming from his breath, according to the criminal complaint.

Kraus told police he drank about six beers prior to going to bed. He slept about five hours before reporting to work.

Kraus had a blood alcohol content level of .111 at around 8:20 a.m. Monday. About 10 minutes later, another sample was taken where he had a BAC level of .107. These samples, according to the complaint, were taken after his bus route where he delivered children to their respective schools.

The students on Kraus’ bus ranged from Pre-K to 12th grade.

Bond was set at $75,000. Police said more charges could be filed.
