Lockdown needed at Ruffner after shooter call comes in

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Ruffner Elementary in Charleston got a phone call at just before 10 o’clock Tuesday morning claiming someone was on the roof of the school and was going to start shooting.

A lockdown was put into place and Charleston police units dispatched to the scene including the department’s SWAT team. Chief of Detectives Lt. Steve Cooper said no shooter was found. The lockdown was lifted about an hour after it was put into effect.

A phone message to parents from the Kanawha County schools central office said proper protocols were followed and Ruffner’s principal would be providing more information to parents later Tuesday.
