Local health board names health officer to follow Brumage

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department named an interim health officer Monday, replacing the current officeholder who is leaving for a state agency position.

The Board of Health named Dr. Dominic Gaziano to the position, noting he will be working part-time at the department. He will succeed Dr. Michael Brumage, who is leaving to become director of the Office of Drug Control Policy at the state Department of Health and Human Resources.

Lolita Kirk is acting executive director in light of Brumage’s departure.
