Lincoln County man killed in Route 10 crash

BRANCHLAND, W.Va. — Two motorists trying to pass a third motorist sideswiped in Lincoln County Monday morning causing a crash and a man’s death, state police said.

According to troopers, James Matheny, 41, of Midkiff, was traveling north on state Route 10 in Branchland when he attempted to pass two motorists. As that was happening the vehicle directly in front of Matheny’s truck also tried to pass the first motorist.

The two vehicles sideswiped in the passing lane sending Matheny’s truck off the road where it overturned. He died at the scene, troopers said.

The investigation continues.
