Large rock pins DOH worker

AMMA ROAD, W.Va. — A state Division of Highways worker was injured doing flood cleanup work Thursday morning in Roane County when he was pinned under a large rock, the DOH said.

The worker was operating an excavator on Amma Road near the intersection with Clio Road when he got out of the excavator at which time the large rock fell and pinned him underneath.

The worker was taken by HealthNet Helicopter to Charleston Area Medical Center. Interstate 79 was closed for a few minutes to prepare a landing zone.

The injured worker was part of a crew that was working to clear road slides caused by the June 23 flood.
