Kids celebrate Halloween at annual Trick or Beat

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — More than 2,500 children and their parents attended a Halloween event at Appalachian Power Park Monday night, allowing children to trick or treat while in a safe and supervised environment.

WRVZ-FM, “98.7 The Beat,” hosted its 12th annual Trick or Beat, which included 25 vendors on hand to pass out candy and entertain with music and costumes of their own.

G Money, a DJ at WRVZ-FM, said the effort has grown so much since its beginning.

“When we started this 12 years ago, we did our own legwork,” he said. “We went out here and found vendors to come out to donate money, candy, pizza and food. It seems like every single year it’s growing and growing.”

The vendors when lined along the concourse of the ballpark, with children passing by, bags in hand, asking for chocolate, Skittles and other types of sweet treats.

G Money said the event also families to enjoy the spirit of Halloween without the threat of running into someone who may be dangerous.

“Nowadays, would you want your child going door to door, knocking and asking for candy?” he said. “You never know what your child is going to get when they knock on somebody’s door.

“We have a lot of weird people out in the world today, and this place is well-lit. Their parents don’t have to worry about going home and looking through the candy before the child eats it.”
